This is an ongoing historical project collating the locomotive shed allocations, details of the engine sheds and other facts about the railways in the UK.
The data is partly researched and partly by referenced contributions by visitors to this site and is stored in a large historical database dynamically accessed by the pages of the site. We welcome additions and suggested improvements to these pages from all visitors. To take part, please contact us through the Contact Page or EMail the The Loco Shed Index Team.
A previous site (Luigi's) contained some of the basic information here but it has since disappeared into the Web ether. This loss was the stimulus to update and extend our database and to place it into the public domain.
The main search facility available on this site is to locate an engine shed using a full, partial or indexed match. Then from those results, it is possible to step to details of the shed, or to list the locomotives recorded as allocated to that shed at a selected date. It is also possible to search for the historical shed allocations of a specific locomotive number, locomotive name or even class.
The database is continually expanding and we suggest that you return regularly to the site for news on developments.
We decided to publish this site in its present state given the perceived importance of the data to the Model Railway Community and following some support in the very popular online forum RMWeb.
Now please follow one of the links on the menu to enter the site.
