  • it does not make any difference that material does not have the word 'Copyright' on it, or that the Copyright symbol is not on an image or page
  • Copyright applies to files (.php, .html, .gif, .jpg, etc.) making up internet pages of the site just as it does to books, magazines and photographs

We have taken a lot of time and effort to produce the 100's pages on this site and to develop the supporting database.  We want you enjoy them here, as we designed them to be seen.  After all this, we don't like to see someone else just hijack the pages.

Submitting material to this site:

This site is maintained by a small group of volunteers on a part-time basis.  We are a non-profit group and although we welcome any small contributions to cover our expenses in maintaining the servers and database, we are unable to pay for material submissions.  We also do not generally accept or respond to requests to include advertising on this site.

Most of the photographic and personal stories have been submitted to the website by well meaning visitors.  Their support of our principle of providing this resource in the pubic domain for the benefit of everyone is valued and we request that their generosity is not abused.
We always request through the policy displayed here that the contributor owns the copyright of all material submitted and by making the submission grants us permission to publish the material on this site.

All materials posted here are copyright of their respective owners and the Team are not responsible for what the visitors submit and take any submission in good faith.

  • To submit a photograph to the site you MUST own the copyright and therefore be able to grant our use of the material.
  • Only photos owned by yourself should be submitted.  (This is Very Important).
  • If someone else owns the photograph please ask them to submit it, or enclose contact information so we can confirm that permission has been granted.
  • You should send a photo with minimum compression allowing our compression routines to give the best image.
  • Do not worry about the file name as our server will automatically rename the file before it is entered onto the database.
  • Please do not send images that are over printed with text or other captions include any appropriate text caption with the accompanying email that indicates ownership and grants use to the site.
  • Please do not send images that are scanned from a book as we will require the publisher's explicit permission in addition to yours.  Besides which, this usually results in a degraded image.  We can scan originals as a last resort, but most local libraries are able to provide this service without the need to fill our post-bag
  • If you are providing images under a restricted license. such as under Creative Commons Licence, please indicate the appropriate licence link for our visitors to follow.

Please send the material to The Loco Shed Index Team by email with a clear and unambiguous statement that you own it and are happy for us to include it on the site.  We are able to download material from another site that you own but still require your explicit permission to do so.
We will always acknowledge you by name against the material unless you have indicated otherwise and will retain this correspondence on file against possible future enquiries.
The submission of other information, useful references, corrections, site improvement suggestions and proposed internet links may be accepted anonymously via the Contact Page

Content Removal

In common with most websites containing such material we do offer a free service to remove any material if the copyright holder of the content requests so.  These removal requests are only valid if:

  • You are, or your company is, the copyright holder of the content in question.
  • You provide the exact URLs to the files, not incomplete (sub)categories or search queries.
  • You provide full contact information (including the name and phone number of the contact person), not a general anti-piracy mail address.

If your request complies with all of these rules, send mail to The Loco Shed Index Team.  Please keep the correspondence polite.
We remove such material as soon as we can, usually within 48 hours.  Of course we would prefer you to grant us permission to continue to use the material an to acknowledge your valued contribution to this public resource.

Links to and from this site

This site contains links to other websites on many of our pages.  These are all websites that we feel might be useful to our visitors, and which we consider relevant to the page the link is on.  We cannot be held responsible for the content of these links or their continued viability or relevance.  Please report to us any broken or inappropriate link.  We do not add links to websites just because they have a link to us, so please don't ask.

We are always glad to see links to us on other web pages.  That means that visitors to other websites have the opportunity to benefit from the information given in these pages.  If you would like to add a link to us on your own web page, please make sure you add the correct code to your page:

  • for a link to a particular page, add the URL from the top of your browser to the code
  • please DO NOT link to an individual image file.
  • please DO NOT use Hot Links (see below)
  • please DO NOT use Frames to make information from our site appear on your web page

Hot Linking and using our Bandwidth

All the pages and data files that make up our site are on our website provider's server.  We pay for the server and the provider's bandwidth used to show them to our visitors.  It is not free.  The more times a file is looked at, the more bandwidth is used.  When other websites show our pictures and files to their visitors using a direct link or hot link to a file on our site instead of a link to a page on our site they are using our bandwidth.  We get charged, the other website does not't.  Please be aware:

  • we have site statistics that tell us when someone uses a Hot Link.
  • Hot Links use the wrong code.  But it can be checked by examining the code that makes up the page.  It is possible for us to change the returned data and make something else appear on the your website.  It does not't have to be an image.
  • You may think it is only a small file (image) that is being hot linked, however, it can soon mount up to quite a lot of bandwidth that we have to pay for.  For example a hot link to an image posted on a Forum will use the originator's bandwidth every time anyone reads any post on that thread.
